Diego Dorantes Sanchez)
Diego Dorantes Sanchez

Subject: URGENT: Request for Official Search and Rescue Coordination with Japan (Missing Person: Diego Dorantes Sanchez)
To whom it may concern,
I am urgently requesting that Taiwanese authorities initiate immediate communication with Japanese counterparts to request an international Search and Rescue (SAR) effort for my missing friend, Diego Dorantes Sanchez, who disappeared on May 30th at approximately 1:00 PM while swimming near Da Bai Sha Beach, Green Island, Taiwan.
Personal and Incident Details:
• Full Name: Diego Dorantes Sanchez
• Date of Incident: May 30, 2025, ~1:00 PM
• Last Known Location: Da Bai Sha Beach, Green Island, Taiwan
• Physical Description:
• Black, short curly hair
• Dark brown eyes
• Wearing black swimming shorts
• Casio wristwatch
• Passport Number: N00985876
The Japanese Coast Guard (Okinawa Branch) has confirmed they are aware of the situation and have received public inquiries. However, they are legally unable to deploy aircraft or ships without a formal SAR request from the Taiwanese government, as required by international maritime treaties.
We urge the Taiwan Coast Guard Administration and relevant ministries to:
1. Submit an official SAR request to Japanese maritime authorities immediately.
2. Provide regional current and weather data to Japanese counterparts — current sea flow data (available on https://earth.nullschool.net) clearly shows strong northbound currents, making it plausible that Diego may have drifted toward Okinawan waters.
We are deeply concerned, especially as we approach the 72-hour critical window, beyond which SAR operations become severely limited in scope and effectiveness. This is a race against time.
Here is a statement from Professor of Oceanography, Alissa Arp: “I have study sources both online and in the scientific literature. Yes, as your map shows the Kuroshio current is strong and moves in a northern direction toward the Ryukyu islands – there are many many small islands there around Okinawa. Based on what I have read I think it is very likely that the strong Kuroshio Current could have swept him northward toward the Ryukyu islands.”
Please treat this matter with the utmost urgency and compassion. We are available for any further information or coordination needed.
Sincerely,
